Instant Pot Elderberry Syrup

Elderberry Syrup in the Instant Pot

Elderberry has been used for centuries for health benefits including: boosting the immune system, fighting off colds and flu, improving cardiovascular function, and lowering cholesterol. With the epic spread of virus and bacteria, having a supply of Elderberry Syrup on hand is crucial for every home! Learn how easy it is to make Instant Pot Elderberry Syrup for colds and flu.

WHAT MAKES ELDERBERRY SUPERIOR?

According to Dr. Mercola: “Findings have revealed that elderberries are a very good source of fiber and vitamin A, and contain high amounts of infection-fighting vitamin C, said to be equal to citrus fruits and a bit higher than that of black currant. Other prominent nutrients in elderberries include iron, potassium, vitamin B6 and beta-carotene.”

These components, along with Anthocyanins (found in deep hued fruits) act as powerful antioxidants to keep cells healthy and able to fight off infections and viruses more readily.

WHERE CAN I FIND ELDERBERRY?

Many natural food stores carry Elderberries, call your local natural food store to see if they have any available. Or you can purchase freeze dried Elderberry online. I buy mine here. If you have the space, you can grow and harvest your own Elderberry bushes. This will enable you to use every part of the plant!

Homemade Elderberry Syrup in the Instant Pot

Ingredients

  • 3 1/2 cups Filtered Water

  • 2/3 cup freeze dried Elderberries or 1 1/2 cups fresh

  • 1 cup Honey

  • 3 Cinnamon sticks or 1tsp ground Cinnamon

  • 2 Tbsp grated or thinly sliced Ginger

  • 1 tsp Cloves

Directions

  • Place Elderberries, Cinnamon, Ginger, Cloves, and Water in your Instant Pot.
  • Set to Pressure Cook for 9 minutes, Quick Release.
  • Strain contents into a bowl that will be used to fill jars or bottles, making sure to press the contents to remove as much liquid as you can, and get all the nutrients out.
  • Allow liquid to cool before adding honey. Once honey is heated it loses much of its nutritional and medicinal properties, so stir in the honey when liquid is close to room temperature.
  • Once incorporated, add to your mason jars or bottles. Alternatively, you could freeze in ice cube trays and then store in an airtight container until ready to use. Be sure to use the refrigerated juice within 6 weeks.
